AMIT Children
New York, NY
About the project
Since 1925, AMIT, an Israeli non-profit educational program, has exerted a transformative impact on Israeli education extending far beyond its schools and students. AMIT currently educates over 36,000 children in 107 schools, youth villages, surrogate family residences and other programs in 33 Israeli cities, representing Israel’s only government-recognized network of religious Jewish education incorporating academic and technological studies. Critically, because two-thirds of AMIT students come from socio-economically disadvantaged communities or development towns, AMIT enables them to aspire to a better future by significantly narrowing the gaps between them and those in more affluent cities and towns in central Israel. Thus, the bulk of donor funds help level the playing field for AMIT students by providing the highest quality interactive education, additional tutoring hours, emotional support and encouragement, and cutting-edge teaching techniques. The new, 11,000-square foot, one-floor New York office for AMIT Children, designed by BR Design, acts as a liaison between AMIT and supporters in the United States. Located in Manhattan’s Garment District, the facility consists of a central core of glass-enclosed conference rooms and offices flanked by open workstations lining the periphery. This arrangement maximizes the amount of daylight entering the office and enables everyone to share outdoor views.
